Expeditions: Samurai Builds & Loadouts
Archetypes that survive Early Access before full crafting lands.
Builds in Expeditions: Samurai will deepen when crafting and fuller customization arrive after Early Access, but you can still plan archetypes now. A build is captain class + companion trio + weapon philosophy + stealth appetite.
Archetype: Quiet Privateer
Stealth-leaning Flynn, Antje always staged, gadget belt prioritized, lethal openers into short combats. Read How to Stealth, Stealth System, and Weapons & Gadgets.
Archetype: Honorable Blades
Martial Flynn with Johan and Tora-Hime rotating, Étienne as conscience. Accept louder missions; win through interrupts and doorway control described in Combat.
Archetype: Silver Tongue
Speech-first Flynn, Étienne locked in the active four, violence as punctuation. Use Classes and Romance Guide so your words match your companion priorities.
Archetype: Twin Captains
Co-op splits archetypes intentionally—one quiet, one loud—so narrative wrestling has mechanical teeth. See Co-op and the Party Planner.
What not to do pre-1.0
Do not hoard an imaginary perfect craft tree that is not shipping on day one. Do not copy a Rome build blindly; stealth changes the opener math. Do track consumable spend per fight during EA week one and revise.
Link builds to progression reality
Early Access Explained and the Roadmap clarify when deeper customization appears. Until then, builds are about roles and habits more than perfect min-max grids.
Ship a coherent fantasy. Let patches refine the numbers.
Inventory rules per archetype
Quiet Privateer: gadgets > heavy armor flair. Honorable Blades: reliable interrupts > novelty toys. Silver Tongue: escape tools and reputation items > pure crit sticks. Twin Captains: complementary bags, not mirrored loot greed.
Respec philosophy
If EA offers cheap respecs, experiment weekly. If respecs are rare, commit to archetypes and fix gaps with companions instead. Classes and Companions are cheaper than a ruined identity.
Tracking sheet
Make four columns: mission, opener, panic button, result. After ten rows you will know your real build better than any pre-launch tier graphic. Sync conclusions with Weapons & Gadgets.
When crafting arrives
Revisit this page and tag each archetype with craft goals. Until then, resist vendor trash panic; see Crafting.
Pillar budgets
Spend 50% of your attention on your primary pillar, 30% on the secondary, 20% on emergency coverage. Quiet Privateers who spend 90% on stealth gadgets and 0% on interrupt insurance will eventually meet a forced fair fight. Honorable Blades who spend 0% on stealth will eventually meet a reinforced courtyard. Budget like a captain, not like a theorycrafter allergic to compromise.
Page takeaway
Treat every archetype above as a hypothesis: after two boss-like fights, rewrite your opener list before copying anyone else’s screenshot.
Act One build humility
Early Access Act One is almost feature complete, but crafting depth and fuller build customization are still on the road to 1.0. Treat week-one loadouts as hypotheses: note which interrupts felt decisive, which stealth openers fed your first swing, and which companion verbs you lacked. Revisit this page after the first major gameplay update and again when Act Two lands—see the Roadmap.
Role coverage checklist
Before you call a build “done,” confirm stealth access (Antje or Fuma Ishiko), steel presence (Johan, Piet Ruisch, Kage, or Tora-Hime), speech escape (Étienne Durand), and triage (Raina). Use the Party Planner and Crew Spotlight so your skill picks do not orphan a pillar. Environmental gadgets from Environmental Interactions count as build pieces, not afterthoughts.
Co-op build etiquette
Twins should avoid cloning the same interrupt bar. Split Simultaneous Combat Resolution duties: one player owns crowd stops, the other owns finishers. Agree in How to Co-op before you respec mid-argument.
Notes from the first three fights
After fight one, write your best interrupt. After fight two, write which companion verb you lacked. After fight three, rewrite the build instead of buying another shiny sword. That loop beats theorycrafting Discord screenshots and keeps Combat practical.
